1) Have any data been collected for this study already?
No, no data have been collected for this study yet.

2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study?
H1: A target person's benevolent intentions (high = other-beneficial vs. low=self-beneficial) promote power granting-especially so when the target person's behavior illustrates high (as compared to low) integrity

3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured.
Power Granting: Leader selection paradigm; ps choose on 24 trials (each presenting a pair of potential leaders) which of the two presented leaders they would select (i.e., grant power in a collaboration with them)

4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to?
2 (benevolent intention: high vs. low) x 2 (integrity: high vs. low), manipulated for target items (leaders presented) within subjects.
Participants are presented with short information (supposedly provided by colleagues) about potential leaders for a new project. Each leader is presented (described) by two statements about this person's high vs. low integrity and high vs. low benevolence. Per trial, two leaders are presented (pairs differ at least in their level of benevolence and/or integrity). Participants choose on each trial which leader they would prefer.

5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis.
Data will be analyzed in long format (using choices as cases) with a regression in MPlus (type complex, cluster variable participant) choice as dependent variable (0 for the leader presented first and 1 for the leader presented second) and differences in benevolence, integrity and in both (representing the interaction) as predictors.

6) Describe exactly how outliers will be defined and handled, and your precise rule(s) for excluding observations.
Ps are excluded from analyses:
If they do not pass the attention check (1 item)
If they are not fluent in English (1 item)
If they indicate that they did not answer the survey honestly (1 item)

7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size?
No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined.

N=60 (no prior effect sizes available)

8) Anything else you would like to pre-register?
(e.g., secondary analyses, variables collected for exploratory purposes, unusual analyses planned?)
