2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study?
The negative relationship between anxiety and creative flexibility is predicted to be stronger for people with depleted compared to intact self-control strength.

3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured.
We will use the subtest EF ("Eigenschaften-Fähigkeiten") of the Berlin Intelligence Structure Test (Jäger, Süß, & Beauducel, 1997) according to the instructions in the test manual.

4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to?
Two conditions: Depleted self-control strength (ego depletion) vs. intact self-control strength (no depletion).

5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis.
We will use linear regression predicting creative performance. The interaction between experimental condition (ego depletion vs. no depletion) and state anxiety (measured as is via self-report) is expected to predict the number of various categories into which the participants' answers can be classified (see the manual of the Berlin Intelligence Structure Test). Simple slope analyses will be applied in order to interpret a statistically significant interaction.

6) Any secondary analyses?
Using PROCESS (Hayes, 2013), we will analyze whether self-perceived exhaustion ("lack of energy", Abele-Brehm & Brehm, 1986) mediates how self-control strength moderates the anxiety-performance relationship.

7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size?
No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined.

Based on an a priori analysis of statistical power, we will collect data from at least 160 participants (G*Power 3.1 analysis: linear multiple regression, fixed model, R squared increase, a priori; input parameters: f squared = .05, alpha = .05, 1 - beta = .80, number of tested predictors = 1, total number of predictors = 3). We will continue data collection until May 10, 2017 (for organizational reasons). However, we will stop data collection prior to May 10, 2017 if a maximum sample size of 210 participants (i.e., 50 participants above the minimum sample size) was reached. We will not begin analyzing the data before data collection is completely finished (i.e., not before May 10, 2017 or N = 210).

We will ask the participants to indicate their ability to understand written German language (as the study materials are in German). Participants with low ability in understanding written German language will be excluded from analyses.
