1) Have any data been collected for this study already?
No, no data have been collected for this study yet.

2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study?
The study examines conformity in videoconferencing, taking into account camera usage.
In addition to social presence, could zoom fatigue also influence conformity rates? And can effects of camera use on conformity rates be shown via video conferencing tools?
Do fatigue and social presence mediate this relationship between camera use and conformity? Which mediator shows the stronger influence on the relationship between camera use and conformity?
H1: Turning on the camera leads to a higher conformity.
H2: Turning on the camera leads to higher conformity mediated by fatigue.
H3: Turning on the camera leads to higher conformity mediated by social presence.
H4: The strength of the mediators differs.

3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured.
Conformity is measured via response change in the rating of the more suitable candidate A and B between the first and second survey time point.
Zoom Fatigue is measured with the item "At the moment I feel fatigued." in German translation (Shockley et al., 2021).
Social presence is measured with the Participant Social Presence Scale by Jang and Choi (2022) in German translation.

4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to?
Two conditions: Participants are either instructed to turn their cameras on or off.

5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis.
A correlation table is used to check for bias due to control variables.
For hypothesis testing, a parallel mediation analysis is performed.
If bias due to control variables is found, parallel mediation analyses of the subgroups are performed for them.

6) Describe exactly how outliers will be defined and handled, and your precise rule(s) for excluding observations.
Subjects who are psychologists or study psychology will be excluded.
Subjects who report to have seen through the manipulation will be excluded.

7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size?
No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined.

We will collect subjects up to a subject count of 92 participants or until May 15, 2023, whichever comes first.

8) Anything else you would like to pre-register?
(e.g., secondary analyses, variables collected for exploratory purposes, unusual analyses planned?)

In addition, the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue Scale by Fauville et al. (2021) in German translation is used for exploratory analyses. Furthermore, for validation purposes, we used 13 items from a previous study for subjective informative and normative conformity.
As demographic and control variables, we record gender, birthplace (Germany or other), education, time of day, age, and occupation. Additionally, an empty box is used to ask what comments and observations subjects have about the study. This also serves as a manipulation check.
