1) Have any data been collected for this study already? No, no data have been collected for this study yet.
2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study? We hypothesize that the NVCQ scale has a good test-retest reliability, that is:
1. Scores on the Non-verbal Communication Questionnaire (T1) will correlate significantly with the Non-verbal Communication Questionnaire (T1) after 6 months (T2).
2. Scores on the Encouraging Nonverbal cues subscale (ENVC) will correlate significantly (T1) with scores on the Encouraging Nonverbal cues subscale (ENVC) after 6 months (T2).
3. Scores on the Discouraging Nonverbal cues subscale (DNVC) will correlate significantly (T1) with scores on the Discouraging Nonverbal cues subscale (DNVC) after 6 months (T2).
3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured. 1. Beliefs about non-verbal communication measured with a Non-verbal communication questionnaire (Khan & Gasiorowska, 2023, in preparation) twice (T1 and T2) over six months.
Non-verbal Communication Questionnaire (NVCQ) will be provided to the participants and they have to indicate their response on each item on a scale from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree).
Encouraging Non-verbal Cues: Participants will be asked to rate the five statements based on the encouraging non-verbal cues ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree).
Discouraging Non-verbal Cues: Participants will be asked to rate the three statements based on the discouraging non-verbal cues ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree).
4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to? None
5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis. 1. We will test correlations between two measurements (T1 and T2) performed with NVCQ and its two subscales (three correlations altogether).
2. We will conduct three repeated-measure ANOVAs comparing the scores on NVCQ and its dimensions between T1 and T2.
6) Describe exactly how outliers will be defined and handled, and your precise rule(s) for excluding observations. We will exclude participants who failed to provide a correct answer to the attention check questions: (1) "Please enter today's date as YYYY-MM-DD" or (2) "Please answer "strongly agree" to this question".
7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size? No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined. We will recruit at least 300 participants in T1 and we will collect the data for 48 hours at T2.
8) Anything else you would like to pre-register? (e.g., secondary analyses, variables collected for exploratory purposes, unusual analyses planned?) Nothing else to preregister
