1) Have any data been collected for this study already?
No, no data have been collected for this study yet.

2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study?
We plan to test whether, and how recently, people can recall abdicating resource allocation decisions to others—that is, asking others to choose rather than allocating the resources oneself.

We predict that the majority of people (more than 50%) will recall at least one instance in which they abdicated. We don’t have strong predictions about how recently people will report having abdicated or how many times in total they will report having abdicated over the past year.

3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured.
We will measure whether participants can remember having abdicated to another individual within the last month (yes / no). We will also ask participants to report when they most recently abdicated: within the last day, week, month, year, or more than one year ago. Finally, we will ask participants to estimate the total number of times they have abdicated over the past year.

4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to?
There is one condition in this survey. All participants will complete this condition.

5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis.
We predict that the majority (more than 50%) of participants will be able to recall a time they abdicated. We do not have strong predictions about the recency of these examples or about how many times people will report abdicating over the past year.

6) Describe exactly how outliers will be defined and handled, and your precise rule(s) for excluding observations.
We will remove from all analyses any participants who withdraw from the study before completing study procedures. Data from these participants will not be analyzed.

7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size?
No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined.

We will recruit 50 participants from Amazon Mechanical Turk.

8) Anything else you would like to pre-register?

We may conduct several exploratory analyses for which we do not have strong predictions. For example, we may compute the mean estimate of how recently participants abdicated, test whether participants’ reports about recency correlate significantly with their estimates about frequency of abdication over the past year, test whether some recency estimates (day, week, month, year, more than a year) are selected more often than others, and compute the median recency reported across participants.

Participants will be asked to report demographics (gender, age, ethnicity).
