1) Have any data been collected for this study already? No, no data have been collected for this study yet.
2) What's the main question being asked or hypothesis being tested in this study? Encouraging participants to take the perspective of other people will increase the likelihood that they lean toward a less popular time to watch a show via a streaming service.
3) Describe the key dependent variable(s) specifying how they will be measured. Choice of which time to watch a show (1 = Definitely leaning toward 3 pm to 6 = definitely leaning toward 8 pm).
4) How many and which conditions will participants be assigned to? 3 conditions: (1) control, (2) detailed perspective-taking reminder, (3) brief perspective-taking reminder.
5) Specify exactly which analyses you will conduct to examine the main question/hypothesis. We will conduct an ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey test testing differences among sample means across the 3 conditions for the dependent variable (when to watch the show).
6) Describe exactly how outliers will be defined and handled, and your precise rule(s) for excluding observations. NA
7) How many observations will be collected or what will determine sample size? No need to justify decision, but be precise about exactly how the number will be determined. We will aim to collect 200 participants per condition (for a total of 600 participants).
8) Anything else you would like to pre-register? (e.g., secondary analyses, variables collected for exploratory purposes, unusual analyses planned?) A manipulation check: When choosing a time, you might have been thinking mostly about what works best for you, or you might have been thinking about others and when they might choose to watch. Using the scale below, please indicate whether you were focused mostly on yourself or focused mostly on others when choosing a time (1 = I was focused mostly on myself 7 = I was focused mostly on others).
Analysis: We will conduct an ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey test testing differences among sample means across the 3 conditions on the manipulation check.
